While the struggle for freedom and equality is a resonating theme in Suzanne Collins’s post-apocalyptic dystopian future, some of her readers have used their own freedom of speech to criticize the colored casting of District 4 tributes Rue and Thresh, as well as other key characters in the book. Thresh and Rue belong to District 4, the agricultural hub of Panem, distinct for being populated by what is the equivalent of today’s African-Americans.
