Postmodern may be a term academe masters as well respected artists argue about for the rest of their lives, but there’s no mistaking Noel Crisostomo’s sharp aesthetic when he translates the concept to fashion. He cites Frank Gehry, the Guggenheim Museum and the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles as his favorites among postmodern architecture, a style that inspired his 30-piece 2010 Holiday collection. Clean, sharp lines and a play with symmetry is the result. The silhouettes he created may seem simple, but the combination of materials and textures (some of which were gathered from his travels) were not: pinstripe, wool crepe and leather make for an impressive design.
Already a veteran of the Canadian fashion scene prior to coming home, he is now taking Manila by storm. This is his first official foray into Philippine Fashion Week. His designs are edgy, yet immaculate and modern but classic. For his color palette, he also selected neutrals such as black, white gray, and champagne, with some pieces incorporating either plum (another popular Spring color) or blue.
