Pre-election assessment by the National Democratic Institute

“There is (still) a high level of uncertainty (in the automated elections) and it is incumbent on the Comelec to qualify the automated elections (procedure) and the manual count (as contingency measure) to be accepted,” said Jamie Metzl, one of the delegation  members of the National Democratic Instit...

Herbert Bautista and the miracle of feeding 2,500

There was one incident in the bible which Jesus fed a few thousands with just a handful of loaves of bread and a bale of fish. That incident happened 4,000 years ago and which remains as a classic “urban legend” if you may about Jesus. Fast forward and we see something like this happen not in the dr...

Military rule or role?

Military rule or role?

Deep-seated paranoia over the military and the administration continues to foster the specter of election failure and the perpetuation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s hold on power . The latest turn of the screw is the recent appointment of Lt. Gen. Delfin Bangit as the chief of the staff of th...

All in the family: Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo

This is the second in the “ All in the family ” series  that features three children of former presidents who aim or ran for the same position as their parents .

Such a petite woman, I thought. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA), the senator struck me as a popular politician in 1996 where I first met her of...

A Lenten recollection--and the political sins of commission and omission

Summer, the Lenten Season and Election Season are here. A very potent, if not ironic combination for us living in the Philippines. The weather sizzles up to a fever pitch as re-electionists and first timers also step up their political campaigns. In anticipation of electronic vote tabulations that w...

Adel Tamano: Tama sa senado?

Is it just me or has there really not been much focus given to senatorial aspirants? With 62 other aspirants vying for the senatorial slots, I’m afraid we don’t have enough time to get to know each of the senatorial candidates well. This and my succeeding blogs will be my humble attempt to share wha...

Explaining the power crisis

This is today.  The lights are twinkling, but not in delight. On and off they go, and we stand, scratching our heads, bewildered in blackest day.

Is this for real?

As The Countdown To Stepdown draws nearer with only 121 days to go as of this writing, many people have been writing articles about their favourite candidates. Some explain why they support Noynoy . The apple does not fall far from the tree

If the apple indeed does not fall far from the tree, then Muntinlupa Rep. Rozzano Rufino “Ruffy” Biazon might just find himself in the Senate after the May 2010 elections.

On his third and final term as Representative of the lone district of Muntinlupa City, Ruffy is running for a seat in the Senate ...

The winnability factor

The winnability factor

I snoop around in beauty salons or even taxi cabs. Who are you voting? I get curious on their choices. At the salon of the Makati commercial center, my hairdresser whispered “ Villar is the most favored candidate here followed by Gibo”. That surprised me because Villar is not ranking in surveys of Met...
