There are all kinds of blogs these days. There’s food, health and wellness, entertainment, news, arts, niche interests like motoring and toys and a whole lot more. But do you know that fashion blogs are one of the highest ranked blogs in the Philippines?
Filipino fashion bloggers are known to be the fashion gurus these days, not only because they express themselves through dressing up in trendy ways, but also teenagers see them as role models.
As a Communication graduate and media practitioner, I’ve learned that influential people like top bloggers should be socially responsible for everything they post online.
When I was in college, my thesis was about “The Impact of Filipino Fashion Bloggers to 17-20 year old students of Consortium of Women Colleges” (Consortium of Women College includes the three exclusive school for girls). I chose that topic because I wanted to have a deeper understanding of how fashion bloggers are becoming mainstream. Plus, I am very much into fashion myself.
What I found out from my research was not surprising: teenagers love fashion blogs because these are where they get their needed information on the latest trends. And the icing on the cake? It’s free and accessible!
Bloggers nowadays have become so popular, they are catapulted to celebrity status. And would you believe, just a few years ago, blogging was just a hobby? Nowadays, it can be a full-blown profession and for those who have lots of followers and hits, they earn really well.
Some of these famous fashion bloggers are Camille Co (itscamilleco.com), whom we usually get a glimpse from her mix and match experiment of pretty dresses and dainty looks.
Gerd Perez’ (gerdperez.tumblr.com), whose signature look is eyeglasses paired with jacket and boots. David Guison (davidguison.com) is one of the most top male bloggers and he’s not afraid of going out of the box to express himself the way he wants to.
Another popular fashion blogger is Lissa Kahayon (www.lisakahayon.com), the woman with a sweet smile best paired with her decent and simple outfits that enlighten the mood of her readers.
Laureen Uy (www.breakmystyle.com), Tricia Gosingtian (blog.triciagosingtian.com) and Patricia Prieto (itsparadigma.com) are the trio of top Filipino fashion bloggers. These individuals are just some of the so-called idols of teenagers that really inspire them to express one’s self through dressing up. The followers see them as good friends that they can turn to any time of the day for some fashion inspiration
What’s next after blogs? No one really knows. Digital technology is growing faster than the speed of light, and at this point, no one can really predict what the future is. But thanks to technology, ordinary citizens now have the power to have their voices heard and express who they are to the rest of the world.
It’s all a matter of taking good photos, writing well and knowing how to connect to readers.
As Tricia Gosingtian said, the key to her success is, “Positivity breeds positivity. Nothing good can ever come out of surrounding yourself with negative people who say negative things all the time. Focusing on the positive things can help you look at life in a different, more meaningful way.”
