Project NOAH Executive Director and University Of the Philippines professor Mahar Lagmay received recognition from the European Geosciences Union (EGU) for his work in disaster risk reduction and mitigation in the Philippines.
Lagmay was conferred the prestigious 2015 Plinius Medal for “outstanding interdisciplinary natural-hazard research and natural-disaster engagement… particularly with respect to volcanic hazards, earthquakes, typhoons, landslides and floods.”
“His research comprises multiple aspects of natural hazards, particularly as they apply to the Philippines, including volcanic hazards, computational fluid dynamics, persistent scatterer interferometry of faulted regions and flood risk management.”
