Fans get giddy when they see their favorite love team onscreen.  It’s a dream come true to witness their favorite celebrities end up as real life partners. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with a happy ending.

Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion

Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion first met in 1981 on the set of the movie, “Dear Heart,” a film about teenage love. It was also Cuneta’s debut movie. Their love team clicked and they were once again paired on the same year in the film “P.S. I Love You”.

The showbiz tandem quickly developed a large following of fans. They continued to make more movies together namely “My Only Love” (1982), “Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin” (1984), and “Sa Hirap at Ginhawa” (1984).

The onscreen chemistry developed in real life. Fans were ecstatic when the couple announced their engagement. They first had a civil wedding. Cuneta and Concepcion had their church wedding on September 23, 1984. It was a grand wedding with then president Ferdinand Marcos serving as principal sponsor. Some said that their wedding was a Philippine version of U.K.’s Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s royal ceremony.

Cuneta was already pregnant at the time of the wedding. In April 1985, the celebrity couple was blessed with a daughter that they christened as Maria Kristina Cassandra Concepcion (KC).

Sadly, the fairy tale marriage was short-lived. Cuneta cited irreconcilable differences as the main reason for their separation. Despite the sad turn of events, Cuneta devoted herself to her daughter and continued her career in showbiz.

In 1990, the estranged couple reunited in front of the camera for the movie, “Bakit Ikaw Pa Rin?” They also made other movies like “Una Kang Naging Akin” (1991) and “Tayong Dalawa” (1992).

The next reunion took 17 years later when Cuneta and Concepcion made a guest appearance in “BFF: Best Friends Forever” starring Comedy Queen Ai Ai delas Alas.

Manilyn Reynes and Aljon Jimenez

Manilyn Reynes started in showbiz at a young age. Her first movie was “To Mama with Love” (1982). She won her first best child actress award for the movie “Minsan May Isang Ina” (1983).
From a child actress, Reynes blossomed into a lovely teenager and became one of the popular teen idols in the 80s. In 1986, she joined teenage variety show “That’s Entertainment” hosted by German Moreno. Reynes was first paired with Janno Gibbs who became her real life boyfriend. They broke up when Gibbs was linked to another “That’s Entertainment” member, Bing Loyzaga. Reynes was later paired with teenage celebrity actors like Keempee De Leon, Billy Joe Crawford, Ogie Alcasid, and Aljon Jimenez.

Reynes and Jimenez were paired in several movies such as “Shake, Rattle & Roll II” and “Shake, Rattle & Roll IV.” Real life romance developed and the couple ended up tying the knot. They have been married for 19 years and they have three sons. Reynes is still active in showbiz while her husband Jimenez acts as her manager.

Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres

Lucy Torres who hails from the province of Ormoc had a crush on actor Richard Gomez since she was 12 years old. Lucy was a big fan of the hunky actor. She watched all of his TV shows and movies. She once made a joke to her family that someday she would marry Richard Gomez. Little did she know that her dream would become a beautiful reality?

A talent scout saw Torres’ picture on a magazine coverage of her debut and pulled strings to get Torres to do the Lux commercial. At first, Torres had no idea who the male model would be because the agency wanted to keep it a secret. When she finally found out that she was going to work opposite Gomez, Torres was ecstatic. The actor made an appearance on the last shooting day of the commercial. He was nice and friendly to Torres and her sister. He even treated them to sundaes at the nearby McDonald’s . The sentimental Torres even kept the plastic teaspoon as a reminder of what she considered their “first date”.

Torres and Gomez saw each other once a year in the next four years. It was only on the fifth year when Gomez really noticed Torres. After they shot the last commercial, Gomez called Torres more frequently. The dark, tall and handsome actor fell for the flawless beauty from Ormoc.

Torres proposed to Gomez in December 1997. They got married on April 28, 1998. They have been blessed with one daughter named Juliana.

Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo

Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo’s first two chance meetings didn’t have any lasting impact. They only got to know each other when they worked together in ABS-CBN’s fantaserye “Krystala” (2004). Miguel, character played by Agoncillo ended up marrying Tala, heroine played by Santos. Before the fantaserye ended in 2005, the two became very close. Many people noticed their special closeness but the couple kept mum about the real score.

In 2006, they starred in the movie, “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” which became a big hit. It was followed by a TV series entitled “Ysabella” a year later. Fans were delighted when they made “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” (2007), sequel to “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo”.

In 2008, Agoncillo proposed to Santos during her 30th birthday at the Antulang Beach Resort in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. One year later, the couple tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony in a town in Batangas. Their adopted daughter, Yohan walked down the isle with Santos.

Agoncillo and Santos have two children, Yohan and Lucho. They are currently expecting a third child.

Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes

In 2007, Rivera got the lead role in GMA Network’s adaptation of the famous Mexican soap “MariMar” opposite Dantes. The show became a huge success which catapulted Rivera to stardom. Rivera and Dantes developed a huge fan base. In 2008, they were paired again in “Dyesebel,” a fantaserye about the famous Philippine mermaid character. In the same year, Rivera and Dantes starred in their first movie together entitled “One True Love”. Fans fondly called the pair as “DongYan”.

During those years, Rivera and Dantes maintained a professional relationship. They were committed to other people. Dantes was together with singer Karylle while Marian was with basketball player Eric Vijandre. They later went separate ways with their respective partners.

After being paired in several projects, rumors began to spread of a developing romance. Dantes and Rivera admitted that they had a special relationship in 2010.

Dantes proposed to Rivera in 2012 while they were in Macau but decided to keep the engagement between them and close family and friends. He proposed again two years later during Rivera’s birthday celebration in her dance show “Marian”.

The showbiz turned real life partners exchanged “I Dos” on December 30, 2014. People are still talking about their lavish wedding. The couple is currently expecting their first child.
