Bituing Walang Ningning (The Musical) – June to July 2015

poster_bwn2Remember the epic scene between Dorina Pineda (Sharon Cuneta) and Lavinia Arguelles (Cherie Gil) where the latter slams the former with the line, “You’re nothing but a second rate, trying hard copy cat!”? That is one of the memorable scenes in the 1985 dramatic movie entitled “Bituing Walang Ningning”. The blockbuster movie also starred Christopher De Leon. In 2006, it was remade into a TV series featuring Sarah Geronimo, Angelika dela Cruz, and Ryan Agoncillo.

“Bituing Walang Ningning” is about Dorina Pineda, an avid fan of a popular singer named Lavinia Arguelles. When Dorina is given a chance to shine as a singer, she discovers the ugly character that hides behind the famous façade of Lavinia. The two are pitted against each other. Dorina realizes that climbing the ladder of success entails tremendous sacrifices. She discovers true love but challenges in her life and career complicate things.

Auditions (amateur and professional performers) were held last Feb. 28 to March 1, 2015 at The Plaza in Newport Mall, Resorts World Manila to find the perfect person to play the key role of Dorina Pineda. A 19-year old Leyte native named Monica Cuenco (formerly known as Monica Sacay) landed the iconic role in the theater adaptation of the film “Bituing Walang Ningning”.

Get a chance to see the musical version of that classic Pinoy movie. Bituing Walang Ningning (The Musical) will run from June to July 2015 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.

Tickets are available online at www.ticketworld.com.ph and at all Ticketworld outlets. For more details, you can call 891-9999.
