The brand new year kicks off with a Disney Broadway hit, English rock band concert, a Fusion of OPM talents in one music festival, and live performance by Grammy Award winner Michael Bublé. Here are the anticipated concerts and shows for January 2015.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
Disney Theatrical Productions, NETworks, Broadway Entertainment Group, and Ovation Productions bring “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” to the Philippines in time for the 20th anniversary of the production. “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast’s” first international tour will visit several countries in Asia and Middle East including Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.
The musical is based on the 1991 Academy Award-winning animated feature film of the same title. “Beauty and the Beast” premiered on Broadway in 1994 and received nine prestigious Tony Awards nominations. The musical ran for 13 years and considered as one of the longest-running Broadway shows in history.
The beautiful love story comes to live on stage. “Beauty and the Beast” is the classic story of a prince who refuses to give an old beggar temporary shelter in exchange of a rose. The beggar who happens to be a beautiful enchantress in disguise punishes the arrogant prince by turning him into a beast and his servants into household items. To break the spell, the prince must fall in love and the woman must return his love before the rose’s last petal falls. Failure to do so will make the curse permanent.
Many years later, a man named Maurice gets lost in the woods while traveling to a fair. After being chased by a pack of wolves, he finds refuge in the Beast’s castle. The Beasts discovers Maurice and takes him as prisoner. Belle searches for her father through the help of their trusted horse. When Belle finally finds her father, she convinces the Beast to let her take her father’s place and the Beast accepts the offer.
Belle’s stay in the castle brings her closer to the Beast and the latter eventually learns to bring down his guard.
Sadness envelops Belle as she longs for her father’s company. The Beast allows Belle to use the magic mirror to check on her father and realizes that he is in danger. The Beast allows Belle to leave the castle grounds to come to the aid of Maurice.
True love brings Belle back to the castle to save the Beast and his servants from being doomed for all eternity. The spell is broken and everyone is revived into their human form including the prince.
“Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” is directed by Rob Roth and choreographed by Matt West. The hit Broadway musical can be seen at Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater (Nicanor Abelardo Hall), Roxas Blvd., Pasay City from January 8 – 25, 2015, 8:00 PM with matinees at 2:00 PM Saturdays and Sundays.

Michael Bublé Live in Manila
“Do not think I take my success these last ten years for granted. I was anything but an overnight sensation which inspires me to deliver big time for my fans – maybe even make some new ones this time out. Trust me, there’s no sitting back, no dialing in for me. I labored over every song, every note and every arrangement because I can’t resist trying to make each record better than my last one. It helps that I’m pretty happy in my life at the moment and feel that I’ve really grown a lot as a songwriter and interpreter of great songs,” Michael Bublé stated on his website.
Grammy Award winner Michael Bublé is coming to the Philippines as part of his Asia tour. He will hold concerts in Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila and Tokyo.
The Canadian singer and songwriter is known for his songs like “It Had to Be You”, “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, “Haven’t Met You Yet”, “Something Stupid”, “To Love Somebody”, “Home”, “Feeling Good”, “Everything”, “Sway”, “Quando, Quando, Quando” (featuring Nelly Furtado), “Wonderful Tonight”, “Everybody Hurts”, “Close Your Eyes,” “Santa Baby”, and more.
