The Film Development Council of the Philippines opens its doors to the first Sineng Pambansa Horror Film Festival last Wednesday, October 29. The festival will run until November 4 in SM Cinemas.

“This is the first of what will be an annual festival; we hope to be bigger next year,” says FDCP Chairman Briccio Santos. The festival is a tribute to the Filipino’s traditional folklores elemental creatures. “Local horror films feature our folklore. The tiyanak, the hukluban—we grew up on these stories,” added Santos.

Four films by master filmmakers are exhibited such as Romy Suzara’s Sigaw sa Hatinggabi, Gil Portes’s Hukluban and Edgardo Vinaraos’s Bacao. The fourth film, which is topbilled by Judy Ann Santos, is a remake of the horror classic Tyanak and is directed by Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes. The films were given grants by the FDCP Film Investment Program.

The Horror Plus Film Festival partnered with SM Cinemas to cater to a larger audience.

“Audiences can expect to be thoroughly entertained. Next year, (we will have) maybe six films,” added Santos.

Stars transfer networks

After 10 years of being a Kapamilya, Iya Villania announced her career-changing move to return to the Kapuso network via Instagram. “The presence of the bosses is definitely what made it real for me a while ago! Made me feel special!,” Villania said, describing a photo of herself with the network bosses. “Thank you for the welcome. It’s nice to be back,” she added.

Iya was first seen in GMA’s teen show “Click” in 2003. A year after, she moved to ABS-CBN. She said that she really thought hard about her decision to come back and she was always talking about it with her husband, Drew Arellano, who is also a Kapuso star. “I wouldn’t say he’s a huge part as to why I’ve decided to come back,” said Villania, clarifying the reason for her move. “But of course, he knew all about this. When we were negotiating and when I was coming to terms with coming back here, siya talaga ‘yong kausap ko.”

She also said that change is constant and she is very optimistic in her decision. “It’s gonna be a huge change, but I guess change is the only permanent thing in this world,” Iya said in an interview with a news site. “And it’s always nice to make new friends. That’s what I’m looking forward to,” she added.

Meanwhile, speaking of returning to former networks, Jolina Magdangal and her former love team Marvin Agustin reunite in ABS-CBN, which made them popular during the 90s. The two have not seen each other for a long time and Jolina said she is excited to work with her former love team again. They will be teamed up in the new morning soap “Flordeliza” under the direction of Wenn Deramas. “I’m so happy, kakaiba ang feeling. Parang na-excite akong makita uli yung mga dati kong katrabaho!” said Jolina in her Aquino and Abunda Tonight interview. She is also very comfortable working with her director Wenn Deramas on a dramaserye. “Si Direk Wenn Deramas alam na alam kong kilalang-kilala niya rin ako pagdating sa ganyan. Alam niya kung paano niya ako imo-motivate.

Marvin Agustin, on the other hand, said he was emotional during the first day of taping in his new network. “Dito ako lumaki, dito ako nagsimula. I was 16 when I started,” he told showbiz reporter, MJ Felipe. Marvin’s last project with the Kapamilya network was “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas” and then he left ABS-CBN for GMA7 in 2004.

John Lloyd addresses lovechild rumors

A blind item has been circulating which is said to pertain to John Llloyd Cruz having a lovechild. The report said that Cruz brought the kid in his show in Los Angeles and claimed that it was his niece. The 31-year old actor laughed off the rumor but also said that he was sure it was not his child.

Kasi, unang-una, kung totoo, dapat lumapit siya sa akin, lumapit siya sa ABS-CBN, makipag-meet sa akin. But I highly doubt it. Saka ilang taon ako noon, 15?,” he said in an interview.

He also clarified that he is not trying to be a hypocrite and will never deny if he really knows he has a child. “Alam niyo, nothing is impossible. At kung meron talagang ganyan na seryoso sa allegation nila, they can come forward,” he added.

The actor said he knows that people are just testing how he will react to the issue so he addressed the rumors once and for all.

Kung hindi nila alam kung saan ako nakatira o paano nila ako makokontak, they can come to ABS. Well, technically, employee pa ako ng ABS. Puwede silang lumapit dito.
