There’s a quick way to look slimmer. It doesn’t involve exercise or a crash diet. All it takes is a good stylist and a pair of scissors. We’re talking about hairstyles! The way your hair falls around your face, the way your bangs help frame your face – all these little things about your hair can play a big role in making you look slimmer. Here are some tricks on getting a hairstyle that makes you look thinner instantly.

Long hair

An easy fix for ladies with already long hair is to keep those long, flowing stresses instead of going for a short do. Long hair elongates the face. This especially complements round and square-shaped faces. Long hair may be quite hard to maintain though – the longer the hair grows, the thinner and less elegant it may begin to look. To keep it looking styled and gorgeous, use a round brush at the ends of the hair when blowdrying. This creates a softer style as it falls against your shoulders and your back.

Asymmetrical Bob

If you’re thinking of getting your hair cut though, try going for an asymmetrical bob. This bob is cut short in the back but is longer in front, giving the illusion of a thinner face. The cut starts around the nape area and end 2 to 3 inches below the chin. This makes the neck look longer. It draws the attention of others forward to your face, so it subtly lengthens the whole face. This is a slightly edgy, fashion-forward hairstyle that’s perfect for any lifestyle. Try to avoid the usual chin-length, blunt bob cut. This kind of bob can add bulk to the sides of the head, making a round face look even rounder. You can opt to get a shorter ‘do by getting a bob above chin level so it draws the attention upward, lengthening the face.

Wispy Bangs

Got bangs? Not all bangs can lengthen the face. Heavy bangs can make a face look rounder or sharper than it looks. Blunt bangs create a horizontal line across your face, so it “cuts” the face in half making it look much wider, even shorter. For square face shapes in particular, wispy bangs can soften the edges of your face and make it look slimmer. Try out a look that is longer on the edges too to further give a slimming look.

The right kind of layers frame the face and can help make it look longer, slimmer.

Frame your face with layers. Not all layers are created equal though! Layers that fall at the cheekbones can make your face look wider than it is. Make sure that the layers fall below your chin, which brings the jawline lower thus making your face look longer, slimmer.

Shorter hair with volume on top can make a face look slimmer.

Got short hair? You can still make your face look slimmer by putting volume at the top. A pixie cut can still be flattering for round face shapes! Just make sure that the bulk of the hair is on top and not on the sides. This creates a more oval shape and draws attention upward.

Wavy hair can make a face look slimmer.

Want volume for your hair? Go for long, loose waves instead tight curls. Long waves curled away from the face can frame it beautifully and give an illusion of slimming. Tight curls can brings attention towards the center of your face and make it look bigger.

Choose the right highlights to help elongate the face.

One more way to draw attention to your face and make it look slimmer is the right choice of highlights. The right color of highlights can brighten your face, and so it gives you a more youthful, thinner look. Where the light and dark highlights go also help lengthen the face. Vertical stripes draw the eye up and down, which make your face look much longer.
