Why NOyNOy is NOt in my shortlist

Media influences and shapes the minds of people

noynoy-reading1I was almost duped—for a while I have become like many others who got carried away and almost believed the smear campaigns here and there, broadcast (TV and radio), print, and the social networks. The giants of television networks, radios and the newspapers there are, leave one wondering—what are they up to? Creating another president that they want to be? Can we really say that the news are balanced? Has everyone been given equal opportunity? The answer is obvious.

Good there is the online community. While we used to get opinions, news, features, commentaries, flash reports, etc. only from TV, newspapers and the radio, nowadays we have blogs and social networks, thanks to the Internet.

This must be the dirtiest political scenario in the country—a period of – mudslinging, negative campaigning and smear campaign.  And the demolition job has become obvious to me. I listened with excitement to Lito Banayo speak during the PCIJ seminar, saying that Noynoy was a sure win, and that his not winning in the elections could only mean that his campaign has faltered.  Wow, I told myself, this person must know a lot. Little did I realize, the naïve person I was with politics, that this person (publicist for Ping Lacson, Chiz Escudero) must have been really doing his job, being in the circle, with the end purpose of trying to psyche and shape the minds of the people. I wondered then, must he have been working for Noynoy and his camp, or should I say for Noynoy’s camp and Noynoy. “Trabaho lang yan”, I should say.

Privilege at Blogwatch to interview

noynoy15I have personally taken time to interview the presidentiables (at least 7 of them), I have asked questions (questions that could have delved from the silly to the perhaps menial or petty, which other people could brand as no brainer questions or unintelligent ones for all I care, as I just wanted answers to my questions), and listened to them talk. I had the privilege to attend forums and debates, owing to my affiliation with Blogwatch (thanks, Gas Vibal and Tin Mandigma of Vibal Foundation) and my training seminar with the Philippine Centre for Investigative Journalism in December on “Covering automated elections, uncovering campaign finance” (thanks Malou Mangahas and Ed Lingao). The past 2 years, I have been exposed to the workings of traditional media (thanks to my affiliation with Vibal Foundation through WikipilipinasFilipinana.net, the Philippine Online Chronicles.

If I were to influence a few, even only 10 people, that’s fine with me, even if I were to gain the ire of many and the persecution of many, that’s also fine by me, as long as I have spoken out and said my piece. I am my own mind and I have the freedom to express what IS my mind and IN my mind.

Noynoy

I have seen and heard Noynoy at close range during the Blogwatch interview and the very first Harapan forum. I was not only disappointed, I began forming questions in my mind—the hows, the whys, the whats, and the what will bes. He had his handlers (should I say manhandlers, oh well, not maybe) complete with new media staff, technicians, IT staff from, etc.  who call themselves volunteers (others do not deny that they are doing the work as professionals), even choreography—his grand entrance, where he would be seated, how the interviewers should be seated, whose sound system to use, and complete with paraphernalia in taping and airing the interview.

During the interview, I could not find substance—how would he lead the country? What were truly his stand on the Hacienda Luisita issue? And lately I found this—a reminder of the Hacienda Luisita massacre, the Mendiola massacre, too.

I won’t even emphasize on what he has not done during his senate days—sins of omission I may say.

I asked myself how could this man be my president? How could this man take care of the future of my country? Of my children and my grandchildren? How could this man take care of my rights and welfare during my old age? Gosh,! I would be 58 when he ends his 6-yr term if he ever becomes president. Who are the people behind his bid for presidency? Will he survive the 6 years and not give up or put out of office?

I remember that after Tita Cory’s death, he was still not even interested on any possibility of being president. I remember Kris Aquino talking about how she takes care even of what her brother would wear for this and that occasion, I remember pretty well Kris saying that she would sell her house to finance her brother’s bid for the presidency. Until someone advised her to shut her mouth, as what she would saying could hurt his brother’s bid for the presidency. I can understand Kris so well, as we were born in the same month, in the same cusp as the astrology would say, though I am many years much older than she is.

noynoy-readingIt was like somebody had to do for Noynoy even the menial job of taking care of himself. His handlers, I mean his staff, say that in fairness, Noynoy takes the time out to read the Inquirer from cover to cover each morning to know the issues of the day. It was like them talking about this little boy who they allow to read the newspapers, feeding him information, mentoring him, tutoring him to know the issues, etc. It was like they were talking about a little boy that they had to take care of. It was like his staff knew more and were more capable of handling a country of 90 million people and still growing. Gosh! From cover to cover—time that he should have spent for more meaningful things. I can stop here. Enough. This man needs substance if he were to be president. And he has to be his own self leading the country, this poor country out of its darkest pits. I wonder, who would lead the country? Would it be him? Would those be his consultants, silent puppet handlers behind the scenes? Yet another cordon sanitaire? The people do not only need HOPE. The people need someone to convert their hopes into solid things that their eyes can see, their stomachs can experience, their minds can learn, the peace to experience, etc.

I would not now even delve on the negative campaigns and dirty tricks that his allies allegedly have concocted and riding on the popularity of his parentage. They have confused the people more than presented the people with issues. They have attacked the very person of another man.

I won’t say sorry, but I dare say, no--NOyNOy is not in my shortlist.

I find your post interesting though I was hoping for more. While I understand that your opinion was formed over time it might help the undecided voters/ readers more if you can provide more detail. Can you expound on what you mean by substance--- does this mean you're looking for clarity on his platforms (ie how he intends to make them a reality) or do you disagree with his stand on issues? Or is it something else? The fact that his staff seem to know more seems like a given to me-- it tells me that he's hired the right people -- since I cannot expect him to know everything about every issue. What's important for me is what he does with the information he's given-- what's his plan of attack, which issues does he feel needs the most attention, etc.

On the video of the Hacienda Luisita massacre, I've seen that before and while it does a good job of painting a real picture of the actual incident I don't think it does much else. It seems very one sided to me. The GMA report was more in depth and seems more comprehensive - http://ow.ly/1zRAE

Thanks!

puh-lease!! 18 April 10, 08:30 PM
then please tell us who you're voting for or those at the top of your shortlist. i hope its not villar puh-lease!!

kindly disclose as well if you are related to any campaign of a particular presidential candidate or political party.
raymund villanueva 18 April 10, 09:16 PM
@Dine: Thanks for re-posting our video.

@Natalie Ang: You are right. Our video was one-sided--for the victims and workers. And yes, the GMA report was more in depth and comprehensive--in several installments. Our video was also focused on one question: bakit, ayon sa mga handlers ni noynoy, bawal pag-usapan ang hacienda luisita? Cheers! Bulatlat.com has a new video on Noynoy. Check it out!

From the very start of the campaign..your articles always feature comments found to be so biased against Sen.Noynoy Aquino...
No wonder.. di nyo naman siya gusto kasi..

If manalo siya....tiyak batikos na naman kayo!
...

Rommel 19 April 10, 03:57 PM
I don't think so. Though kasi, ang laki ng expectations sa Golden Boy na Noynoy and he's leading the surveys. That makes him the most vulnerable to observation. Thus, he gets noticed a lot. Well, pareho ang nakita ko sa mga nakita ng author of this article, I find myself agreeing point per point. Would have loved it even more if the article was more detailed as Natalie Ang has pointed out.
kss 20 April 10, 01:08 PM
i don't think this article should be seen that way. What I think is that you are close-minded not to comprehend what the author would like to point out. So much people are so blinded are persuaded, they would vote for Noynoy not thinking beforehand what he has done for us Filipinos.

Pag manalo siya, tiyak batikos naman? Well that's normal. Kung iba kaya ang manalo? Tiyak batikos rin naman kayo.
Cob 18 April 10, 10:52 PM
What does being born in the same month have to do with you knowing Kris? If you slipped there and just hinted that you think astrology helps you know people then you are just as questionable as a presidentiable candidate, quit comically even.
On a more serious note though, I agree with the first, you have no clear point in what you're writing. If you're you trying to cast a shadow of doubt on the balding candidate then just tell people to watch tv. You become redundant otherwise.
I care little about who wins the presidency, partly because I cannot even vote so I won't attack your matter on the basis of who's the better candidate. All I'm saying that you're article is interesting, well written, yes, but empty. I myself am quite mistaken because I thought this article would be some good. Alas, I have wasted some minutes of my life reading this.

Honest opinions.
BOBONG BOTANTE 18 April 10, 11:05 PM

Noynoy OVER MY DEAD BODY!
I've read Greed and Betrayal (Cecilio Arilio) and said to myself that I don't want the Philippines to be abominated that way, again. EVER!

Reposting from Facebook which reflects all that I want to say:
All noy's barkings and parrotings about, 'hindi ako corrupt', or 'hindi ako magnanakaw', or a fight between 'good and evil' ARE NOTHING BUT SHEER HYPOCRISY:
*noynoy was said to have committed corruption at 26;
*nothing was done about CARP for hacienda luisita famers;
*he did not lift a finger for the hacienda luisita massacre victims;
*nothing is heard about what he did with pork barrels for 12 years;
*no legislation, whatsoever, for 12 years despite huge salaries and perks;
*his enemies are evil but keeps anNOYingly raiding them to be part of his fold;
*his campaign feeds on nothing but hatred, vindictiveness, disinformation and lies!

"I can understand Kris so well, as we were born in the same month, in the same cusp as the astrology would say, though I am many years much older than she is."

Really? You expect us to take you seriously about your thoughts on this candidate after that line?

What a waste of bandwidth.
Cob 19 April 10, 02:50 PM
You sir have eyes. I applaud you because so many other readers do not.

Damn straight.

"Good there is the online community. While we used to get opinions, news, features, commentaries, flash reports, etc. only from TV, newspapers and the radio, nowadays we have blogs and social networks, thanks to the Internet."

Too bad writing on the internet doesn't equal writing anything useful.

if you clicked this article you will see the list of entries written about the presidential candidates

http://www.thepoc.net/voters-education/5619-selecting-a-presidential-candidate-to-vote-for-as-president.html

it shows Noynoy having more positive article over Villar.
Sander 19 April 10, 08:37 AM
It's a good thing that you finally realized this. I don't have anything against Noynoy, mukha nga syang mabait pero if you do your homework you will find that Noynoy is the most INCAPABLE of all the candidates. Wala syang kahit anong accomplishment... kahit isang batas wala manlang nagawa!
Did Aquino killed those people with his own hands? NO.

Hey go ahead sanay naman kayo sa buhay filipino. why ask for more. but you should not pity your children because you are one of them who chooses to have that kind of life.......for them.
mags 20 April 10, 11:52 AM

tsong, please check your grammar, mali mali kasi...ha ha ha

yes, you're right...we get what we deserve...so no to ABNOY NOY....har har har
Mimang 20 April 10, 12:25 PM
On Noynoy's:
"Did he instructed to kill them? NO."
- Read Inquirer's review on the hacienda. ("Loveland said he recognized his assailants as plainclothes security men who were with then-Congressman Noynoy Aquino’s convoy when Aquino entered Las Haciendas subdivision three days before (January 2, 2005"). http://www.gmanews.tv/story/183662/after-luisita-massacre-more-killings-linked-to-protest

On Villar's
"Did he benefited in doing this? YES"
- NOT YET. Hindi pa tapos ang project dahil nilitis to agad.

I should ask you,
Was Noynoy's Grandpa (Jose Cojuangco -- the father of Cory) the one who bought the hacienda from the Spaniards? YES
Did Cory inherited a lot, being the daughter of the owner? YES
Did Cory die? YES
Did Noynoy, aside from his own stockholdings, inherited the estate of Cory, along with her parts on the Hacienda? YES
So is the 5% ownership mumbled by Noynoy probably untrue? YES

And aside from that:
Did Noynoy author any law that was approved and became effective while in the senate? A BIG NO.
Was his performance in the Congress below mediocrity? YES
11th Congress - Out of 125 bills, 18 authored, 107 co-authored.
12th Congress - Out of 90 bills, 10 authored, 80 co-authored.
13th Congress - Out of 101 bills, 16 authored, 85 co-authored.

Did he say that surveys can be bought in Quiapo? YES.
Is he using his mother's and father's image rather than his own track records? YES (he has no track records to show)
Is he corrupt by not doing his job as a legislator? YES YES YES YES

And on Villar:
Does he have track records to show? VERY MUCH.
9th Congress - Out of 667 bills, 543* authored, 123 co-authored.
10th Congress - Out of 434 bills, 311 authored, 123 co-authored.
11th Congress - appointed as Speaker of the House
Out of 73 bills, 28 authored, 45 co-authored.

Would the C5 project provide free toll? YES
Did anyone die on the C5 project? NO
Is there any person in the C5 area asking for justice because of unfair wages? NO.
Would YOU BENEFIT when you go to C5 because of the no toll policy? YES

Did farmers die on the Hacienda Luisita massacre? YES
Are their relatives still asking for justice for what the Cojuangcos have done? YES
Are they still not distributing it to the farmers when the law said they should? HINDI PA DIN! Kahit kelan hindi nila ito bibigay (Read the article on New York Times)
Is the Hacienda a 45-minute drive on the SCTEX? YES.
Malaki ba ang amelyar dito? SOBRA.

Villar is portrayed as the devil. But hey, I can't blame you by reading and believing each of Noynoy's black propaganda. Pero kung tingin mo ang kinabukasan mo ay nasa isang taong walang ginawa, then go ahead. May God save the Philippines.
kss 20 April 10, 01:23 PM
thank you for this. I hope all the people will realize this.

You are so right. Noynoy is just good in making black propagandas against Villar. (That they weren't really poor because they can afford to hospitalize Manny Villar's brother in FEU before he died.) That's really narrow.

WHy is he doing that? Because he has nothing to show off. HOW CAN HE CAMPAIGN ON HIS OWN MERITS WHEN HE HAS NONE? What a shame.

That's why I'll never vote for him. Sorry, it's my opinion and i respect the opinion of those who would vote for him, I just hope we get the same respect. I just hope you will all be enlightened.
tomcat 29 April 10, 01:06 AM
Mimang,

Well said!

Cob & Eddie,

You two missed the point! The writer understand Kris as it takes one to know one. This was the premise when she wrote it.

"I remember Kris Aquino talking about how she takes care even of what her brother would wear for this and that occasion, I remember pretty well Kris saying that she would sell her house to finance her brother’s bid for the presidency. Until someone advised her to shut her mouth, as what she would saying could hurt his brother’s bid for the presidency. I can understand Kris so well, as we were born in the same month, in the same cusp as the astrology would say, though I am many years much older than she is."

READ THE CONTEXT!!! You cut a portion of the write up and interpret it according to what you think. If anybody would read your comment they would really think you're right but it is misleading. Cob your blind!! O baka nagbubulag bulagan lang!! Take your comments somewhere else sa mga bobo na di nakaka intindi ng ingles!

art 03 May 10, 01:22 PM
It was NoyNoy who used his influence in the government so that army troops could be sent, probably related to his voting for no, on hearing the Garci tapes.
