Choose the best asshole that serves your purpose

presidential-candidates"The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the law." ~ Cornelius Tacitus

Forget about the quote above. This post is supposedly about that but then I lost the idea, thus I changed the content. The whole post just doesn’t connect. However, the quote itself is good, right?

The title of this post was actually "Vote wisely" but then I thought it was kind of redundant, perhaps useless, because I firmly believe that nobody even cares what "voting wisely" means for the simple reason that we Pinoys, the majority of the citizens of this beloved country named Philippines, have been electing assholes in government for the longest time. We Pinoys simply and amazingly do not learn. For the majority of us Pinoys, "Voting wisely" is just a term that equates to "Vote for my Idol," "Vote for the Popular," “Vote for the Good Political Ads” and whatever, but never a vote for the right guy for the right reason.

I might be wrong in saying that most Pinoys did not vote for the right guy for the right reason, neither do I have the right answer as to why nor do I know the right formula as to how Pinoys must vote. Do you?

But somehow, the Internet is a gold mine for ideas and stories that might help us all to choose the right one for the right reason. So, let me share this useful story.

The organs of the body were having a meeting, trying to decide who was in charge. Each organ took a turn speaking up:

  • Brain: I should be in charge because I run all body functions.
  • Blood: I should be in charge because I circulate oxygen for the brain.
  • Stomach: I should be in charge because I process food to the brain.
  • Legs: I should be in charge because I take the brain where it wants to go.
  • Eyes: I should be in charge because I let the brain see where it’s going.
  • Asshole: I should be in charge because I get rid of your waste.

All the other parts laughed and made him very mad. To prove his point, the asshole immediately slammed tightly closed and stayed that way for 6 days, refusing to rid the body of any waste whatsoever.

  • Day 1 – Brain got a terrible headache and cried out for relief.
  • Day 2 – Stomach got bloated and began to ache terribly.
  • Day 3 – Legs got cramps and became unstable.
  • Day 4 – Eyes became watery and vision became blurred.
  • Day 5 – Blood became toxic and poisoned the body.
  • Day 6 – The other organs agreed to let the asshole be in charge.

As the story goes, it is evident that assholes always rule the world and that do not exempt our country but looking at the process the body organs did, it was amazing. They all agreed because it serves everyone's purpose, the common good, their survival.

Comparing that to what we have been doing for the many years, we really are something!

As always, and unlike the body organs, when election is over and done, we asked, why and for what? We then say bad words that make me wonder and ask, why and for what?

anc-forum9Well, you are the one who can answer that correctly. If you find a very good reason why they are elected, then congratulations. If not, then, kalbuhin mo ulo mo!  You are one hell of a motivator and a great source of inspiration for the old and new sets of assholes that, during Election period, just act as clowns to amuse you.

While the real asshole (literally) works well and handles the dirtiest "dirty job," that is disposing of our body waste, the assholes we select are doing the opposite of what they are supposed to do.

And remember, by virtue of the highest votes, whether there was dagdag bawas or not, these people secure a guaranteed employment contract with a maximum term of six years.  Whether they perform well or not, whatever happens, mamatay man sila, we will compensate them. Aside from the added perks (out of their creativity to make money) such as tongpats and kickbacks, di natin sila ma-terminate agad because our constitution says that there must be a process.

In a way, we the employers become the slaves and the assholes become the Bosses. Having these roles reversed, almost everything is at their hands 24/7; the money, the power and our lives, similar to what the real asshole did on those six days.

And so, even when your children are going malnourished because all you can afford is the scrap called pagpag, these assholes will always have the luxury to eat and dine in Le Cirque or any fancy hotels they like.

Even when you are unemployed and killing yourself to find one low paying job, these assholes and their families, friends and cohorts will enjoy their employment to the last day of their term. They could even seek another employment term by using our money.

Even when you fear for your life, the safety of your family and your property, if you have any, these assholes and their family are given the highest security available.

Even if you live in the streets or in dump site or squatters area where your so-called house is only made of scrap materials, cardboard and old tires or junk, these assholes will always live a comfortable life.

Even if you want the best education for your kids, sooner or later that want just becomes an unreachable dream. One day, your kid along with million Pinoy kids will become part of the statistics as illiterate and ignorant while the children of these assholes study on the best schools here or abroad and wherever they wish to study, even on the moon if that’s possible.

Even when you are sick, you have a disease that needs to be treated or you are dying, you have no other option but to suffer and wish for your death to come sooner than what God has planned while these assholes, can always have the best medical treatment because it is always available to them so they may live longer to prolong our agony.

And the list of tragedies may go on and on. As matter of fact, many more have been highlighted in those billion-pesos political ads. Of course they know what the problems are because they created them but I bet, they will not solve any of it. One guy even had the guts to insult us with a question kung naka-swim ka na sa dagat ng basura?

But hey, let me stop the useless rant. Here is something that you have to consider. More or less, this is going to be the situation after May 2010 coming from a guy named Gerald Celente, head of Trends Research Institute

It's only going to get worse," is the sobering forecast of Gerald Celente. He believes the "bailout bubble" is going to burst and the U.S. economy will slip back into recession, if not worse, in 2010.

Like all forecasters, Celente isn't always right but he has predicted a number of major events, as detailed here.

Gerald Celente is on the record for accurately forecasting and naming the current "Great Recession"; for forecasting the 1987 Stock Market Crash, the Dot-com bust, Gold Bull Run to Begin, 2001 Recession, the Real Estate bubble, the "Panic of '08," the ‘Collapse of 09,” Tax Revolts, the coming "Greatest Depression," and many more social, economic, business, consumer and geopolitical trends.

So if Celente is right about 2010, what will that mean for us Pinoys? The forecast says a lot about the American economy and so what? Our sweet little Gloria once said, we are insulated. But that was more of a lapse in judgment than reality. Sad to say, Philippines is also part of the world. Being so and aside from the fact that our government has no money with a running budget deficit of more than 270 billion pesos save for the OFW remittances that propped up the economy, there is a great possibility that Pinoys who are not yet poor will become poor, those already poor will become poorer. Life would be even harder if not worst in the coming years.

The big question then is, after May 2010, what would these new sets of assholes este people do?

Would they take care of everyone’s interest, the so-called common good or the common good for their families and friends?

Would they just pass more laws to complicate matters for you and easier for them to do what they want? (Now it seems that my post is connecting to the quotations above. But still, not quite.)

The assholes will still rule. That’s a given. But then, if ever there were such a thing as best assholes to serve our purpose, then, that would be a good start.

The more words I write here, the more stupid I become. I guess, it is time for you to say your piece.

Sensya na, homesick yata ako eh.

myepinoy is a Filipino, a father, a good husband with a big question mark and a blogger who has less regard for proper grammar. He, like Jessica Zafra, once believed that Pinoy world domination is possible. Sometime in the 90's, he was part of the group with a codename “OCW", now called  "OFW." Unfortunately, nothing happened because the Philippine government is more concerned about dollar remittances to prop up the dying economy. As a lip service, myepinoy suddenly became a HERO. He still works in the equity market and has accepted the fact that Pinoys dominating the world is impossible.

myepinoy does not like politicians because most of these people have caused him embarrassment that he will never forget as Pinoy. In one of the seminars he attended abroad about Money Laundering, two of the Philippine presidents were part of the slide presentation as "The World's Most Corrupt Leaders" (Transparency International). The kids and wife of the number two most corrupt leader are still running for public office and so is the number 10 who is running as president.

His political views are rather insane as his political transformation from political believer to political atheist is almost complete.

This article explicitly expresses the very dilemma of the Filipino electorate: "How can we vote wisely, when there are no "wise choices" to choose from, in the first place?"

I guess what Myepinoy (the author) is trying to say here when he wrote: "Choose the best assholes that serves your purpose" - is for us to choose the least evil among the candidates. Or choose the candidate that will serve our best interest. "Kanya-kanyang diskarte na lang, o kanya-kanyang hila ng buntot."

So if one senatorial candidate serves your best interest because he will support Cha-Cha, and you know you will be benefited from it - then, go, vote for that candidate. Ganoon na lang siguro.. but then, that would place the country to a more pathetic situation.

I like how this article is written - raw - unpretentious, witty and humurous. The metaphors fall in the right places... A light read, yet with heavy substance. :)

When I was asked by the National Democratic Institute delegate (NDI) on the sentiments of the electorate, I described the anger, frustration, anxiety of most Filipinos. Myepinoy's article describes the frustration for most of us.. yes, vote wisely.

welcome to Blogwatch, myepinoy! well written! Your post is another indication that we are now in the era of indifference, apathy and “neutrality”. The time of political activism has passed us by.

Is it helplessness to the nth degree? or hopelessness?

But no! Assholes may be for real--but it is us who let them be! We have so many times done so! When "us" I mean the collective Filipinos as a whole. After tallying the votes--legitimate, faked, replaced, bought, etc. (that also counts rather discounts those who didn't vote, but whose votes would have mattered). Sad, the past many years, the forces were simply not with us who have good intentions.

We should not lose hope, though. We should continue to hope--let them assholes rule if they must. Do we have ay choice? But let us, in our own small way, do what we feel is right. 1 x a million or many millions of good intentions would matter. In time...

As for me (I have said these many times), I will cherish my one vote and make best use of it; I will be proactive and stand for what is right and lawful, even if other people around me will do otherwise; I will REMEMBER past mistakes and will not cast my vote to useless individuals who have already proven to be unworthy of public trust. On election day, carpe diem--I will seize the day!

Yes, Rhodora is right--it could be to vote the least evil, and as Noemi says, to vote wisely.

This is a great post. I find the analogy between leaders and body parts very amusing.

It's really sad and frustrating when elections sometimes boil down to voting for the lesser evil.
