Adam Lambert joining Queen?

Former American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert was reportedly tapped to be the lead singer of Queen. Lambert was quoted by U.K.'s Daily Star saying, ... there's no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That's impossible....The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f***ing great songs. It's to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of," he said.

In November last year, Lambert performed with Brian May and Queen during the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) in Belfast. In 2009, May and Roger Taylor joined Lambert in his Idols finals appearance.

But nothing is final yet.

A representative for Hollywood Records told Rolling Stone,"The Daily Star item only mentions that Adam may perform with Queen at Britain's Sonisphere. This is not confirmed. Nothing has been signed.

Lambert took to Twitter to clarify his comments. "Them clever reporters takin my quotes outta context ... I haven't confirmed any guest appearances. I was talking about the EMAs," he tweeted. "That being said, I'm truly flattered by your jump to such glorious conclusions."

In December, Queen's 62-year old drummer Taylor had spoken highly of Lambert, "He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great,"according to a Billboard report. "There's nothing signed just yet but we're talking about live dates. It could be very exciting."

It was singer Paul Rodgers who first filled spot left by Freddie Mercury. Rodgers did a five year stint from 2004 to (the band went by the name of Queen + Paul Rodgers).

Queen staged their final concert with Freddie Mercury in Sonisphere in 1986.
