Senator Edgardo Angara called
for the nationwide school opening on June 1 to be pushed back due to
the threat of the H1N1 virus which has infected a second
person in the Philippines.
BusinessWorld
Online reports that Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. president of the
League of Cities of the Philippines will also recommend postponing
classes. "Prevention is better because [allowing] one child
affected by the virus to enter the school could lead to more cases of
the flu," Abalos said.
The Department of Health
maintains,
however, that the flu threat is not grave enough to cause such a
disruption. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is due to discuss
preparations with the DepEd on Tuesday.
