According to Maceda, at least 18 people expressed their intention to run under Binay's slate in the upcoming senatorial elections in 2013. Included in the list were incumbent sentaors Francis Escudero, Loren Legarda, Gregorio Honasan and Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
It also includes Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile’s son, Jackie Ponce Enrile, and businessman Joey de Venecia III, son of former Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr..
Maceda himself hinted at the “possibility” of his comeback in 2013.
Last year, Binay said that he had already started recruiting candidates for his coalition in the upcoming senatorial elections.
Binay, who heads both the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and the United Opposition parties, already announced his plans to run for presidency in 2016.
Binay withdrew his 2010 presidential bid when then-senator Benigno Aquino III declared his intention to run for president, with Liberal Party president Mar Roxas as his running mate. Binay then teamed up with former president Joseph Estrada and competed with Roxas in the vice presidential race.
According to Maceda, the result's of next year's elections will be a “prelude” to the 2016 presidential elections.
Maceda also provided a list of Binay's possible running mate: Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Revilla and Escudero who, in 2010, supported Aquino and Binay for president and vice-president, respectively.
