Angry Birds lands on Facebook on February 14

Angry Birds, the most downloaded game of 2011, is hitting the word's largest social network Facebook on February 14, Valentine's Day.

Rovio, the studio behind the game, said Angry Birds have been developed for nearly every major mobile platform or device but this is the first time the game will be coming to a browser on the social network.

The Angry Birds game and its spin-offs have been downloaded more than 500 million times. Rovio Chief Marketing Officer Peter Vesterbacka said the company is worth more than $1.2 billion.

According to reports, the Finnish company Rovio, plans to hold a major launch in Jakarta, currently regarded as the global capital of Facebook in terms of number of registered users.

The launch of the Angry Birds franchise on Facebook will allow more than 800 million Facebook users to access the game.

TheNextWeb.com reported that Rovio is making a big push to extend the reach of the Angry Bird franchise in Asia and have set up an office in China - as it moves towards one billion unique downloads, a figure that it is just 300 million short of at this point. A host of tech firms are targeting Asia for growth and, for Rovio, that means that its games must be available on every platform possible.

Rovio is targeting “every screen” for Angry Birds as it works towards introducing a fully synchronised gaming experience for its fans. Such a set-up would allow gamers to start and resume their playing sessions across a range of devices and via the Web.”

The Angry Birds title made a smashing 6.5 million downloads worldwide on Christmas Day 2011 and, in collaboration with Nokia, it now boasts the Guiness Book World Record for “The Most People in a Mobile Phone Game Relay” after 9,000 people turned up to an event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, last year.

Rovio's Vesterbacka said in December that the company is looking to IPO in Hong Kong in 2013. In 2010 Rovio's revenue was around $10 million while in 2011, the company expected a turnover of around $100 million. The company was almost bankrupt when it released Angry Birds in 2009.

Vesterbacka said they aim to build the company into a media firm similar to Disney. For 2012, Rovio expects to release 5-6 more games while the much anticipated animated movie is around 2-3 years away.
