On November 23, 2011, journalists, mass communication students, and human rights organizations marched to Mendiola to call for justice for the family and victims of the 2009 Maguindanao Massacre, as well as an end to impunity and human rights vilations.

November 23 was also International Day to End Impunity which aims to gather international solidarity against media and activist killings committed worldwide.
